Saving yesterday for tomorrow
Mission
The Brooks Preservation Society (BPS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was formed in 2008 with the mission to protect, preserve, and celebrate historic structures and artifacts and to support the surrounding communities for the benefit of the citizens and local economy.
Objectives
Among our objectives is the preservation and operation of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad running through Waldo County. To that end we formed the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railway and then acquired the name Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad. We acquired the Brooks and City Point railroad stations and the Unity engine house. We are active in the preservation and restoration of the stations along with the preservation of several historical Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad locomotives, railcars, and MOW equipment.
Our Volunteers
All this is possible through a devoted group of volunteers who run our trains, maintain our tracks, equipment, and perform the restoration work needed. Please see our projects and volunteer pages for additional information.
If you would like to get involved in our activities, please consider becoming part of our preservation family. New members are always welcome.
